Improved Heat Resistance of Silicon Carbide Fiber (SiC Fiber)

Achieving Next Generation Airplane Engine Materials

By using electron beam (EB) crosslinking in the manufacturing process for silicon carbide fibers it is possible to vastly improve heat resistance. These silicon carbide fibers are only about one-third of the weight of metals with similar or better heat resistance, strength and durability. These features are used in airplane engine materials to contribute to reduction in fuel costs due to lighter weight machines.
